Nikkor 24mm f/2 AI
Nikkor 28mm f/2 AI (AI 1977-'81, AI-S '81-'05)
This sample circa 1980
Filter size: 52mm
Close focus distance: 1 foot or 0.3 meters
Aperture range: f/2 - f/22
Aperture blades: 7
Depth of field scale for f/4, f/8-22
Design: 11 elements in 10 groups.
Comments:
I like this lens a lot, but I find it pretty grotesque at f/2, and stopped down at infinity the 24mm f/2.8 makes more sense since it is cheaper. However, if you shoot up close at f/2.8-f/5.6 I really like the results!
The AI-S version has a much shorter focusing throw, like 60 degrees, compared with 160 degrees for the AI version (the 24mm f/2.8 has this dichotomy as well). I knew from experience with the 24mm f/2.8 AI-S that the short focus throw does that work well with my style of shooting, so I sought out the 24mm f/2 AI.
