This Old Camera: Yashica Lynx 5000 E

Camera: Yashica Lynx 5000 E circa 1968-1971(?)

Fixed lens rangefinder

Comments: solid, no nonsense shooter. Pretty big for what it is, but not heavy. It seems like quite the steal if you want a rangefinder and don't mind a normal lens. The Lynx 14/14E with the 45mm f/1.4 lenses are bigger, heavier and more expensive, but I haven't played with one. I do very much appreciate the fast 1/1000 sec shutter speed, which is rare for a leaf shutter, and the slightly closer-than-usual close focus. The finder is alright, not bright but useable even indoors if you take a little time.

There are various replacements for the batteries, but I haven't bothered to see if the meter on my copy works. Meters are for chumps.

Not much to say otherwise, it takes good pictures. It would be great first rangefinder. I actually wish the lens had more character.

  1. I like the switch labeled... "Switch"!

Also, it's interesting to see that this particular example, at least, was made in Hong Kong.
