Nikkor 200mm f/4 Q non-AI ('61-'76, this sample circa '70)









Filter size: 52mm
Close focus distance: 7 feet or 2 meters, older version 10 feet or 3 meters.
Aperture range: f/4 - f/32, older version f/22
Aperture blades: 7, older version 6
Depth of field scale for f/32, IR focusing index.
Design: 4 elements in 4 groups.

The older version have a silver identity ring, 6 aperture blades, and only focus to 10 feet.

The newer Nippon Kogaku and Nikon versions have black identity rings, have 7 aperture blades, and focus closer, to 7 feet. The knurling on the lens hood varies. Note that the K version is a different design.

Comments: This is a good lens. It is a little large, and the close focus, especially on the older 20cm version is limiting, but performance is good.

  1. When I bought my F2 many years ago I got one of these (AI'ed) as a "body cap". I never really used it until recently when I tried pairing it with my D750 DSLR. What a great lens and it is small enough to fit in my little walk-around bag with a 24-85. I like it particularly as a portrait lens, actually.
