Mamiya/Sekor 500TL with Mamiya/Sekor Auto 50mm f/2

Camera: Mamiya/Sekor 500TL circa 1966 - 1973

Lens mount: M42 screw mount
Shutter: 1 - 1/500s plus bulb
Depth-of-Field Preview: Yes, push in on film advance lever once it is angled out to turn on the meter.
Metering: TTL, weird rectangular region at bottom center of the frame.
ISO: 25 - 800
Prisms/focusing aids: fixed prism, central microprism.
Self timer: N/A
Flash: Optional cold shoe clamps onto prism, 1/60 flash sync, PC connectors.
Film plane indicator: yes

Comments: Pull back partially on film advance lever to turn on meter, press in the center of the film advance lever to return the lever to its normal position and turn meter off. Slow shutter speeds sound a little slow. Awesome 70's tapestry camera strap.

Manual: Butkus

Issues: Inoperable meter. Camera locked up in the cold but once it warmed up I was able to convince it to drop the mirror.

Lens: Mamiya/Sekor Auto 50mm f/2

Filter size: 52mm
Close focus distance: 1.75 ft / 0.5m (marked)
Aperture range: f/2 - f/16
Aperture blades: 6
Depth of field scale for f/2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, and IR focusing index.

Comments: Ridged metal focusing ring. Screw in metal lens cap! Has automatic/manual switch for aperture. Focusing ring uneven (needs CLA probably) on my sample.

The photos: all Tri-X

  1. Fine looking piece of precision hardware... but... man... that thing must be OLD.

  2. The lens is "automatic"; it is worth mentioning that pushing "in" (towards the front of the camera) on the quick-wind lever when the meter is on provides "depth of field preview" (and the necessary stop-down of the lens to use the spot meter.

The pricier "DTL" models had both the spot meter and averaging metering (switch selectable).

    1. Oui, c'est le luminomètre - pressez le bouton sur le levier d'armement.
